Acrylic on heavy Canson paper.
9,45" x 11,81" / 24 cm x 30,7 cm, 2014.

It's the first time that I've tried Canson watercolourpaper.
Although I normally don't like rough surfaces, I loved painting on it!
If I paint on Rives BFK or Arches hotpress paper, the paper absorbs so quickly, that I don't have enough time to blend it. Maybe that's a good thing for watercolour artists, but for me it's kind of annoying...
I love to blend and just take my time. I know that painting wet in wet would be a solution, but I just want to paint without have to think about if my paper is still wet enough.
With Canson everything went so easy, it felt like a relief.

I saw this awesome dog on Instagram. His name is Nigel. I just had to draw and paint him. Streamlined and white...a beautiful combination. His boss made lots of pictures from different angles, so it was hard to choose.

Lodestone, little painting

Nederlandse illustrator, Marjolein Caljouw
Pencil, gold ink, acrylics, oilpaint on heavy watercolourpaper.
14,7 x 21 cm / 5,51" x 8,27"

*sold

I'm not totally satisfied with this outcome. I like paintings that have a little mystery, or some transparency.
This seems too obvious somehow.
Dutch Illustrator, Marjolein Caljouw, Painting, oils, sketch, model
This is the part I like because of the textures, gold glow and the birdskull. I went to a natural museum a while ago and took so many pictures.

If you want to see if a portrait is anatomical correct you can look in the mirror while holding the painting and you will see the "mistakes" you've made. Or you can flip it in Photoshop to see the difference.

Leave, little painting

Leaves. Pencil, acrylics, oilpaint on heavy watercolourpaper.
14,9 x 21 cm / 5,51" x 8,27"
Available at my online store.
This was a rough sketch for an assignment I did and I wondered how I would approach it if I could do...whatever I want. This was the result. I don't really like it, but I promised myself to move on to the next even if I'm not satisfied.

 Gold paint is my friend!

 Sketch fase. Pencil on paper.
Because I couldn't choose...I've posted 2 versions online to ask for a second opinion.

Fingertips, painting

Pencil, gold ink, acrylics, oilpaint on heavy watercolourpaper.
14,7 x 21 cm / 5,51" x 8,27"
Available at my online store.

I noticed that I collect a lot of pictures of poses where you can't see everything of the face. Sometimes a pose or hands will tell enough. When a person shows the inside of their wrists, they are more 'open' to the other person. However her body language is closed and vulnerable.
The girl on this picture is a girl on Instagram, called Lauren Isabeau, which has some beautiful elegant pictures.

Often time people ask me why I'm drawing with red. The pencil is a little harder to erase and it smudges a little less than the regular pencils.

This painting is also available in my new online store.

Lauren, painting

I've been painting a lot these last months and although they are little I enjoy the little improvements.

I started with a colour pencil sketch.

The white lines are painted with Golden Fluid, which makes it easier to paint thin lines.

This painting is one of the few little paintings that is available in my new online store:

Hidden

Pencil, gold ink, acrylics, oilpaint on heavy watercolourpaper.
14,7 x 21 cm / 5,51" x 8,27"
Available in my store: www.marjoleincaljouw.storenvy.com

I wanted to keep this painting quite transparent, just like "Fall Deep" but I never do the same trick over and over again and I keep trying new things which leads me sometimes to unpleasant surprises...

The hand needed some adjustments, but I've painted the background with acrylics. If I want to paint the exact same colours with oils, it's very hard. The texture is different, the colours blend, let's say it's almost impossible. Somehow I made it work, but I will approach the next one differently.

Honey Hunter, my new logo

logo, animation, bumblebee, graphic design.

My new logo. Transferred in Illustrator CS6.

Stop-motion edited in I-movie.

When I studied Graphic Design, the first thing they told the students, was to simplify your logo. The less lines, the better.

My work contains a lot of lines and detail and I think it represents myself well. The bumblebee is always busy and looking for sweetness. It can be cute, but people can be afraid of it. It's social and it can sting if you are pushing them into a corner. It flies and it's free.

Mesoglea

Did you know I build a new online store?
Now I'm able to share more pictures of prints and original work and it's very easy to order.

I recommend Storenvy instead of Bigcartel, because it's user friendly, you can add more products and pictures and it's free. If you are looking for an online store to make: go for it!
Pencil, acrylics, ink on heavy weight paper, 2014.

Lately I've been making a lot of female figures, just to focus on a subject which is challenging for me and to experiment with techniques. I enjoyed it a lot, but I love many other things that are so interesting to draw. Marine life has always drawn my attention and this is one of the ideas I had in mind.
This one was quite challenging but I like the outcome. I started this sketch when I visited Draw Club in Amsterdam. A small group who likes to meet up and just sketch and talk. Want to visit it more often.

This tiny detail is my favorite part because I like to make up a story in my mind, like this jellyfish is floating around and he's blowing bubbles into the marine life.
So, something different. And more is coming up!
Don't forget to follow me on instagram.  I did have more updates there.
